"Creativity, imagination, and the unlimited landscape of percussion = Six Drumsets. This group demonstrates the emotive power of rhythm based music."
—Glen Velez

Led by former Blue Man Group drummer, Steve Wilkes, Six Drumsets debuted in 1994 at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. Since then, the group has performed to standing ovations throughout the US. The international cast of Six Drumsets features Steve, Jon Hazilla, Johnny Rabb, Takeshi Ichikawa, Johan Svensson, and Marko Djordjevic. Playing rhythms that span the scope of modern percussion—World Beat, Hip-Hop, Jungle, Jazz, Rock, Electronic Techno, Ambient—the group creates drums that sing.

Steve Wilkes is the drummer for the world renowned Empire Brass Quintet, and a Berklee College of Music Professor. As a recipient of the Japan Foundation Uchida Fellowship, Steve traveled throughout Asia in 1991 and1994. His studies with the legendary Japanese Taiko troupes Kodo, O Gion Daiko and particularly Seido Kobayashi and O Edo Sukeroku Taiko inspired him to build a band around the indigenous backbeat of the modern world: the drumset. Six Drumsets released their debut, self-titled CD in 1997 and will be releasing it's follow-up, Simmer, on April 2nd, 2002. This CD was produced by Steve with co-production and engineering by Rob Jaczko.
